The bill aims to create a new Oyo state from Oyo, with its capital being Oyo town and the second state being Ibadan, which is currently the capital. The new Ibadan state would have Ibadan as its capital.

According to a publication by Premium Times, the bill has passed its second reading without debate, as Speaker Abbas Tajudeen considered it “straightforward legislation.”

This would not be the first attempt to divide Oyo State, as previous bills seeking to create Oke-Ogun and Ibadan states failed to gain traction.

Another bill sponsored by Oluwole Oke is currently underway, which proposes the creation of Oke-Ogun State.

Oyo State was formed from the former Western State on February 3, 1976, during General Murtala Mohammed’s military regime. Osun State was also split off in 1991.

However, the bill has been referred to the Committee on Constitutional Review for further legislative action. The proposal for new states has been seen across all regions, mostly in the southeast and southwest. If successful, it would be the first time in the country’s history that a new state was created during democracy.👉 For More READ FULL CONTENT FROM THE SOURCE ↔️
