Leicester City have decided to part ways with Steve Cooper after just 12 Premier League games, which left them 16th in the league table.
At the end of his short tenure, there was supposedly plenty of discontent within the squad about how the season had panned out so far, with many pointing fingers towards his tactical set-up in the side.
Elsewhere, there were also issues surrounding his player selection, with Jannik Vestergaard notably being exiled from training and getting very limited first-team action as a result.
It is a decision that many Leicester City fans are currently onboard with, especially when looking at the available options for the side, however it is a decision that has left former England attacker Paul Merson bemused.

Paul Merson criticises Leicester City board for ‘unreal’ decision to sack Steve Cooper
Merson has had his say on the recent sacking of Cooper, which has come about after five games winless in the Premier League, leaving them just one point away from the relegation zone.
In spite of many Leicester fans being jubilant over the decision, Merson has responded on X, where he said: “Unreal Leicester sacking Steve Cooper not even in the bottom 3 what do they expect from this season at the start free flowing football and Europe.”
The decision to sack Cooper has come about after conceding 23 in just 12 games, as well as having been knocked out of the EFL Cup prior to Manchester United.

Whilst it is understandable that many regard the timeframe that Cooper was given to be relatively short, including Gary Lineker, who believe he could have been handed more time, it will be beneficial for Leicester City that they have gone about the proactive approach in getting in a new manager.
The options available at their disposal right now, including the likes of Graham Potter and Ruud Van Nistelrooy, would be too good to turn down with the hope that Cooper turns the tide.
It makes sense for the Leicester board to admit that they got the summer appointment wrong, and hope to build on it with an improved successor.
