In a statement issued by the Imo State Police Command spokesperson, ASP Henry Okoye, it was revealed that the commissioner implemented this measure following an operational assessment of key security locations in the state. The initiative focuses on ensuring that police personnel, particularly those involved in stop-and-search operations and traffic control, perform their duties in line with the ethical standards of the Nigeria Police Force.
To achieve this, the commissioner deployed a mobile patrol team under the leadership of the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the IGP X-Squad. The team will collaborate with other security agencies to patrol the state continuously, ensuring strict adherence to professional conduct. This includes addressing issues of corruption, extortion, and incivility towards the public.
Commissioner Aboki emphasized the importance of professionalism, respect, and courtesy in officers’ interactions with citizens. He warned that unprofessional behavior, especially extortion, would not be tolerated.
Additionally, the commissioner reviewed the state’s broader security framework in coordination with other security agencies to ensure strategic deployment of personnel to maintain peace and order throughout the holiday period.
