Security has been tightened at the national headquarters in Abuja as two rival factions of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scheduled meetings at the same time and location on Tuesday.
Armed policemen and their vehicles were seen at the venue on Tuesday morning, raising tensions within the opposition party following days of intensified internal wrangling.
A faction backed by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike had earlier announced an emergency meeting of the party’s Board of Trustees and National Executive Committee (NEC) for Tuesday, November 18, 2025.
The notice, issued on Monday by the factional National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, was shared on social media by Wike’s media aide, Lere Olayinka, stating the meeting would take place at the NEC Hall of the PDP National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja.
Meanwhile, the faction loyal to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde also scheduled a separate meeting at the same venue and date, raising concerns of a possible confrontation between loyalists of the two camps.
The internal division comes just days after the PDP expelled FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, and former National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu during the party’s national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The decision followed a motion moved by Chief Olabode George, former National Vice Chairman (South), and seconded by Samaila Buga, Chairman of PDP Bauchi State.
