He was first appointed in November 2017 and was subsequently re-appointed for a second term in September 2021, following his remarkable performance by then President Muhammadu Buhari.
Dependable sources disclosed that his resignation letter was sighted at the Minister’s office.
The source however declined to give details.
Sources further disclosed that when contacted, Effedua initially said he had no comment on the issue.
However, he was said to have confirmed the development, saying “his reasons are personal.”
“My reasons are personal, l believe that the rectorate is not a chieftaincy title, l have done what l should do to set standards as a military man and administrator. l am satisfied with whatever achievements l was able to record. It’s time to move on,” he said.
Under his leadership, Nigeria’s premier maritime training institution experienced unprecedented human and infrastructural upgrade with the procurement of state of the art simulators making the country rank as best in modern training facilities in West and Central Africa.
It is on record that he carried out a comprehensive clean-up of the system, closed financial leakages, improved cadets’ hostels and hitherto poor feeding, rejigged academic and non-academic staff orientation for positive outcomes,
He also oversaw the expansion and refurbishment of staff quarters; completed abandoned and outstanding projects; and began a construction of structures and facilities for enhanced status of the academy n line with the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) standards.
