Nigeria’s chance of qualifying for the tournament was dealt a significant blow after the Super Eagles failed to secure a win in their two qualifier matches earlier this month.

The team was held to a goalless draw against South Africa and lost 2-1 to Benin Republic, leaving them in fifth position in Group C with just three points after four matches.

Rohr, who led Nigeria to the 2018 World Cup in Russia, believes it would be a disappointment if the Super Eagles miss out on consecutive World Cups.

“If they miss another one, for such a football country with the best players in Africa, it would be a little bit shameful,” the 70-year-old said.

“So, I think the players will do everything to go there (World Cup), and also the federation and the staff. But now, of course, they must be realistic and say that it’s only three points in four games.”
