Manchester United are expected to make at least one new signing in the January transfer window.

Ruben Amorim has had a decent start to life at his new home. He has won three and drawn one of his first six games in all competitions, which is not a bad record at all.

United have a decent squad, but there are multiple areas where they could do with reinforcements. The January transfer window will give Amorim the chance to do just that.

The 39-year-old is likely to be on the market for a new left-back. He could re-sign a player who was on Manchester United’s books just a few months ago.
Manchester United sent scouts to watch Alvaro Fernandez

Alvaro Fernandez Carreras joined Manchester United as a teenager from Real Madrid’s academy in 2020.

The Spaniard played over 60 games for the Red Devils’ youth sides in all competitions. He made a great name for himself and caught the eye many times.

Fernandez even made the first-team squad on a few occasions. The last time was in August 2023, when Erik ten Hag’s side beat Nottingham Forest 3-2.TRENDING NOW| NEW METHOD OUT NOW, CHECK OUT HOW TO KNOW IF THE GIRL YOU MEET IS AN ASHAWO IN DISGUISE | WATCH THE VIDEO NOW TO LEARN FOR YOUR SAFETY.

The young left-back was an unused substitute in that game, and he was then loaned out to Granada a few days later. In January, he was sent on another loan deal to Benfica, who signed him permanently last summer after Ten Hag decided to let him go.

Now, following Amorim’s arrival, GiveMeSport have claimed that Manchester United sent scouts to watch Fernandez play for Benfica in their Champions League clash against Bologna on Wednesday.

The report claims that the Red Devils were previously sceptical of bringing Fernandez back, but now, ‘their scouting mission has highlighted that he is under consideration after Amorim has prioritised the addition of a new left-back in January’.

United’s scouting mission has been described as a hint that ‘they could re-sign Fernandez’ in the winter window once it opens in January.

Fernandez has a £42 million release clause at Benfica, but Manchester United can get him for as little as £16.5 million thanks to the buy-back clause they inserted in his deal when they sold him.

What Fernandez said when he was asked about rejoining Manchester United

Fernandez has been brilliant at Benfica since joining them permanently from Manchester United.

The 21-year-old has played every single game in all competitions so far this season, and his performances have been impressive. He even won the Player of the Match award for his display against Bologna in the Champions League.

In recent months, there have been a few rumours that United could exercise their buy-back clause to re-sign Fernandez.

The left-back was asked about the speculation, but Fernandez showed no interest in rejoining United. He said: “I only think about Benfica. I’m only focused here.”TRENDING NOW| NEW METHOD OUT NOW, CHECK OUT HOW TO KNOW IF THE GIRL YOU MEET IS AN ASHAWO IN DISGUISE | WATCH THE VIDEO NOW TO LEARN FOR YOUR SAFETY.

Liverpool have also been linked with a move to sign Fernandez in 2025. It remains to be seen where he will end up if he leaves Benfica.…Read -T.he.Full_Article.Here.
