Nigerians on social media have reacted to the shocking report that the Labour Party gubernatorial candidate, Olumide Akpata has been defeated in his polling unit.

According to official documents, Olumide Akpata scored 31 votes, while Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, scored 41 votes. The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate scored only 19.

With elections concluded in most polling units and wards, the results have begun to trickle in.

After casting his vote, Akpata described his voting experience as “seamless.” He expressed his wish that every other voter in the state would have the same seamless experience as he did.

This will be the first time Akpata will contest in a national election. The former president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) was hoping to upset the odds against political parties with stronger structures in the state.
