Sir Okeowo grew up in a wealthy family led by Pa Taiwo Victor Okeowo, a millionaire businessman and choirmaster. Raised with strict discipline, Okeowo faced a life-changing decision when Nigeria’s economy plummeted in the mid-1980s, affecting his family’s wealth.

A Shift to Business Amid Economic Hardship

Faced with the nation’s economic crisis and his family’s financial struggles, Okeowo opted out of a medical career. He started small, making burglary proofs and furniture, then expanded to lighting and offshore components, setting the stage for his future in construction and civil engineering.

Towards the end of the 1980s, Okeowo established Gibraltar Construction Nigeria Limited, transitioning entirely to construction and civil engineering. Despite early financial hurdles and minimal bank support, he persisted, focusing first on manageable projects before tackling more ambitious ones.
Developing Landmark Projects

Under Okeowo’s leadership, Gibraltar Construction blossomed, completing over 1200 projects across Nigeria. Notably, he developed the prestigious Parkview Estate in Ikoyi and built his own magnificent home, the Palacio de Okeowo mansion, a grand residence inspired by French palaces and costing about $12 million.

Beyond Construction: Philanthropy and Personal Life
