The aid, as reported by The Indian Times, aims to ease the suffering of people affected by recent floods in various regions of Nigeria.

According to the National Emergency Management Agency of Nigeria (NEMA), over one million residents have been impacted by severe flooding, leading to the destruction of thousands of homes and exacerbating a dire humanitarian crisis.

State governor Babagan Zulum stated on Wednesday that the state’s resources have been stretched thin as rescued residents are being placed in temporary shelters.

Heavy rains caused a dam to overflow on Tuesday, resulting in the destruction of a state-owned zoo and releasing crocodiles and snakes into flooded communities.

Al Jazeera’s Ahmed Idris, reporting from Maiduguri in Nigeria, mentioned that a “stream of people” is currently evacuating areas affected by the floodwaters.

Salem Al Shamsi, UAE Ambassador to Nigeria, reiterated the UAE’s commitment to supporting countries facing humanitarian challenges.

He stated, “The aid sent reflects the UAE’s dedication to strengthening humanitarian cooperation with the international community and assisting nations during crises and disasters. This initiative aims to alleviate the suffering of those impacted by the floods in Nigeria and provide them with the necessary support to overcome this difficult period.”

The UAE continues to provide humanitarian and relief aid to countries affected by natural disasters, demonstrating its commitment to upholding the values of humanitarian solidarity and offering assistance to people in need worldwide.
