Di last time wey di matter come up on 10 February 2025, Rivers state govnor Sim Fubara withdraw im appeal against di Rivers State House of Assembly, Martins Amaewhule and odas from di Supreme Court.

Di appeal wey govnor Fubara withdraw na specifically for suit wey concern di presentation of di 2024 budget.

Professor Yusuf Ali, wey be lawyer to oga Fubara tell di court say events don overtake dat matter.

Lawyers to di respondents no argue di withdrawal, dem just tell di court to award a cost of two million naira against di appellants becos “dem don put plenty time and energy into di case.”

Di Justice Uwani Abba-Aji five man led panel dismiss di appeal and award cost of 2 million naira ($1,700) to 1st to 12th respondents against di govnor.

Di court go give judgement on di remaining four matters wey include:

SC/CV/1174/2024, between Rivers State House of Assembly and odas against di Rivers State Goment and nine odas;
SC/CV/1175/2024, between Rivers State House of Assembly and odas against di Rivers State Governor and nine odas;
SC/CV/1176/2024, between Rivers State House of Assembly and odas against Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC, and nine odas; and
SC/CV/1177/2024, between Rivers State House of Assembly and odas against di Accountant General of Rivers State and nine odas.

One of di matters bifor di Supreme Court na di one concerning di judgement of di Court of Appeal for July 2024 wey nullify di removal of Martin Amaewhule and 24 odas as members of Rivers State House of Assembly.

Oga Amaewhule na di Speaker of di faction of di River State Assembly wey no dey gree wit Govnor Fubara sotey dem bin announce say dem don comot from di Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join di All Progressives Congress (APC), di lawmakers later make U-turn say dem no be registered members of di APC.

But afta dat announcement, Fubara bin carry di matter go court to ask di court to sack di lawmakers wey defect, sake of wetin constitution tok say lawmaker wey leave im party go also vacate di seat.

Justice Charles Wali of di Rivers State high court bin grant di order on 10 May 2024. E stop Martin Amaewhule from parading imsef as di Speaker of di Rivers State House of Assembly, and also bar di 24 oda members from entering di assembly complex or carrying out any legislative assignment in di name of di Rivers State House of Assembly.

However, di court of appeal, on 4 July, 2024, overturn di judgement and return Amaewhule and di oda 24 members.
