The deadly assault occurred late on the night of December 23, 2024, when heavily armed assailants stormed a police post in the area.

According to local sources, the attackers overpowered the officers before fleeing the scene. While no group has officially claimed responsibility for the assault, the Lukarawa group, known for its violent activities along border regions, is strongly suspected to be behind the attack.

In response to the growing threat of Lukarawa, Major-General Rogers Nicolas (Rtd), the former Theatre Commander of Operation Lafia Dole, has called for local government chairmen and traditional rulers in the five councils where the terror group is active to be held accountable. Major-General Nicolas expressed concern over the failure of local authorities in Sokoto State to adequately address the rising threat of the group, which has been operating for over six years without significant intervention.

Speaking on Arise TV just weeks ago, Nicolas criticized the lack of intelligence-gathering by local officials. He pointed out that local government chairmen and traditional rulers have access to community-based security forces, such as vigilantes and hunters, but these resources have not been properly utilized to collect critical intelligence. He argued that this negligence allowed the Lukarawa group to grow unchecked.

“It is shocking that a terror group like Lukarawa has been operating in our country for so long without any mention of it,” Nicolas said. “What are the local government chairmen doing? These local governments have their own security outfits, but there has been no effective use of these resources for intelligence gathering.”

Nicolas further emphasized the importance of local leaders in maintaining security, noting that the military can only intervene effectively when intelligence is properly gathered. He added, “Local government authorities and traditional rulers in these areas should be held accountable for their failure to act promptly and gather intelligence. The locals have a significant role to play in security, and it is concerning that vigilantes and hunters, who are often seen in these regions, are not passing crucial information to authorities.”FULL DETAILS EMERGED| ANOTHER POPULAR NIGERIAN POLITICIAN IS DEAD JUST BECAUSE OF THIS.

The retired general concluded by stressing that effective security operations depend on the cooperation of local officials and the timely sharing of intelligence, and that neglecting these responsibilities has contributed to the ongoing threat posed by groups like Lukarawa...Tap To Read The Full Story Here.
