Hamzat raised the alarm over what he described as outrageous electricity billing by the power distribution company supplying his official residence at Ikoyi, Lagos.
Speaking at the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Lagos State Government and the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) to expand electricity access to rural communities in the State, held at Victoria Island on Monday, Dr Hamzat, who represented Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, revealed that his power bill skyrocketed by over 1,000 percent from N2.7 million in March to a staggering N29 million.
He said the outrageous increase in the electricity bill was despite paying for a prepaid meter, which EKEDC (Eko Electricity Distribution Company) has made difficult to switch from estimated to metered billing.
Hamzat described the outrageous increase in the electricity bill of his official residence as a reflection of the widespread suffering among Lagosians due to overbilling.
“I bought a meter so I won’t keep getting estimated bills, but converting it has been a serious challenge. Our people are suffering because of estimated billing,” the Deputy Governor lamented…CONTINUE READING>>
