Speaking during an interview on TVC, Sowunmi asserted that previous presidents, including Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Goodluck Jonathan, and Muhammadu Buhari, cannot be classified as “real politicians.” According to him, their rise to power was largely influenced by circumstances rather than political strategy or experience.

He explained, “President Bola Tinubu is the first real politician to win an election and become president. President Obasanjo was a soldier, not a politician. Buhari, too, was a soldier and not a politician. Jonathan came into power more as a product of circumstance than as a politician. But Bola Tinubu is a politician through and through.”

Sowunmi emphasized the need for opposition parties to adapt their strategies to engage effectively with Tinubu’s leadership, given his strong political background. He called for a recalibration of opposition politics to ensure accountability and a robust democratic process.

He added, “If we are to engage Tinubu and ensure he doesn’t ‘run away with the jar, the cookie pot, and the cookie itself,’ the opposition must bring quality minds together to think critically about democracy and their role in it.”What Is Your Opinion On This?
