UTWEETS reports that Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Thursday, January 9, 2025. He stated that the arrest followed the circulation of a disturbing video showing Shaaibu inflicting grievous injuries on her stepdaughter.

“In relation to the viral video where a woman identified as Ihsanatu Shaaibu physically abused and caused grievous injuries to her stepdaughter Fa’iza Bala, a 5-year-old, the suspects have been arrested today, Thursday, January 9, 2025, and will be prosecuted as soon as investigations are concluded. We will keep you abreast of the proceedings. Thank you,” ACP Adejobi said.

The incident has drawn widespread condemnation from the public, with many calling for justice and stricter measures against child abuse in Nigeria.

In a related case of child abuse, a teacher at Christ-Mitots International School in Ikorodu, Lagos State, identified as Stella Nwadigo, has been arraigned before Magistrate M.O. Kusanu at the Ogba Magistrate Court for allegedly assaulting a 3-year-old pupil, Abayomi Michael.

Nwadigo was arrested after a video surfaced online showing her repeatedly slapping the young boy during a lesson. The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) confirmed the development in a statement on X (formerly Twitter), expressing its commitment to justice.

“Following the ongoing viral case of child abuse, all concerned parties appeared today, January 9, 2025, at the Ogba Magistrate Court. The matter was assigned to Magistrate M.O. Kusanu. Two charges were read to the suspect, to which she pled not guilty,” the DSVA statement read.

During the court session, the defense counsel for Nwadigo requested bail, which the court granted at ₦200,000 with two verifiable sureties. The court, however, ordered that the suspect be remanded in a correctional facility until she meets her bail conditions. The case was adjourned to January 18, 2025, for trial.

Both cases have triggered significant public outrage, with citizens demanding stricter penalties for individuals found guilty of child abuse, whether in domestic or educational settings. Advocacy groups and stakeholders have reiterated the importance of protecting children from violence and ensuring swift justice for perpetrators.

These incidents highlight the urgent need for robust enforcement of laws protecting children, as well as measures to prevent abuse in schools and homes across Nigeria.TOP NEWS TODAY!
