UTWEETS reports that this initiative is designed to reduce economic burdens and enhance agricultural productivity, particularly for irrigation farmers.
The announcement was made by Governor Zulum on Friday evening during a distribution event in Bama town, where over 5,000 farmers—previously displaced by insurgent activities—received essential farming inputs.
Affordable Fuel for Farmers
Recognizing the challenges posed by skyrocketing fuel prices, Zulum revealed that petrol, which is sold at ₦1,000 to ₦1,200 per litre in Maiduguri, will now be made available to farmers at a significantly reduced rate of ₦600 per litre.
“One of the major challenges facing farming communities here, especially for irrigation farming, is the increasing cost of fuel,” the governor stated. “Henceforth, for irrigation farmers this season, a litre of petrol will be sold at ₦600.”STRANGE INDEED! To ensure efficient implementation, Zulum directed the Commissioner for Agriculture to work closely with the Brigade Commander to facilitate the timely delivery of subsidized petrol to farmers in Bama town.
Distribution of Farm Inputs
In addition to the fuel subsidy, the governor distributed a wide range of critical farming resources to enhance agricultural activities in the region. The items distributed included:
- 2,000 bags of blended NPK fertilizer
- 1,000 water pumps
- 620 gasoline pumps
- 380 solar water pumps
- 1,000 sprayers
- 800 rolls of 2-inch flexible hose
- 1,000 litres of pesticides
- Seeds for various crops
Governor Zulum also highlighted ongoing infrastructure development for farmers, noting that over 100 tube wells have been constructed to support irrigation farming, with plans to build an additional 250 wells.
Reconstruction and Resettlement Efforts
During his visit, Zulum inspected reconstruction projects in Darajama and Goniri villages within the Bama Local Government Area. Expressing satisfaction with the progress, he reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to rebuilding communities and resettling displaced persons.
The governor emphasized the importance of maintaining transparency and warned against any attempts to derail the reconstruction and resettlement initiatives.
Zulum extended his gratitude to the federal government for its continued support in rebuilding insurgency-affected communities, underscoring the collaboration needed to restore normalcy in Borno State.STRANGE INDEED!
