Utweets reports that Chukwu made this remark on Friday while extending a warm welcome to Tinubu ahead of his official visit to Enugu State, scheduled for Saturday. He expressed optimism about the evolving relationship between the Federal Government under Tinubu’s administration and the Igbo community, describing it as a promising shift in attitude.
In a statement issued by Ohanaeze’s spokesperson, Alex Ogbonnia, Chukwu remarked:
“With this visit to Enugu, President Tinubu has the unique opportunity to inscribe his name in the hearts of Ndigbo and all well-meaning Nigerians by addressing a long-standing issue of national importance—the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. Such a move would symbolize justice, unity, and reconciliation.”
Ohanaeze emphasized that true national unity and sustainable economic growth can only be achieved through equity, fairness, and social justice. The statement highlighted the adverse effects of systemic marginalization, deprivation, and external instigation of insecurity, noting that such challenges continue to threaten the peace and stability of the region.
“No society can thrive under severe existential threats, such as deliberate marginalization, widespread deprivation, and externally fueled crises. The Igbo nation, like every part of Nigeria, deserves justice and inclusiveness,” the statement added.
The group also lauded Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State for his transformative leadership, citing his impressive achievements within a short period. These include the development of the Enugu International Conference Centre, the establishment of smart schools across all electoral wards, the revitalization of key industries such as Hotel Presidential and Flour Mills, and the construction and rehabilitation of numerous roads.
Furthermore, Ohanaeze commended Senator Hope Uzodimma, Chairman of the South East Governors Forum, for his pivotal role in installing Night Landing Equipment at the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport in Owerri. This development, the statement noted, has significantly enhanced the region’s aviation safety and connectivity.
