Omokri, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who has backed former vice president Atiku Abubakar in previous elections, confidently declared that any other politician who considers themselves a bigger figure in the opposition is deluding themselves. In his opinion, Obi’s status as the leading opposition force is indisputable at this point in time.
In a post shared on Facebook this past Friday, Omokri expressed his admiration for Obi’s perseverance in the face of significant challenges. He stated, “Peter Obi is, without question, the number one opposition figure in Nigeria today. No one else comes close.”
Omokri, who has not hesitated to criticize Obi in the past, emphasized that other opposition figures are delusional if they believe they can surpass Obi’s influence at this stage. He further elaborated, saying, “Some individuals in certain opposition parties have already been politically sidelined by Obi, though they remain unaware of this reality. Their political existence is merely being prolonged by their wealth, which is effectively keeping them on life support.”
Despite his criticisms, Omokri acknowledged Obi’s strong position in the opposition but also suggested areas where the former Labour Party candidate could improve. “If Obi were to broaden his appeal beyond the Igbo community and encourage his supporters to adopt a more constructive and less combative tone, he could achieve even greater success.
