Kalu made this statement on Saturday during an empowerment event organized by Chris Nkwonta, the lawmaker representing Ukwa East/Ukwa West Federal Constituency, in Ndoki, Ukwa East Local Government Area.

The event, which saw over 3,000 members from various political parties defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), was seen as a reflection of the people’s gratitude toward President Tinubu for his commitment to the development of the South East region, particularly through the creation of the South East Development Commission (SEDC).

Kalu emphasized that the establishment of the SEDC would address the region’s infrastructure needs. He noted that President Tinubu’s efforts for the Igbo people are significant, especially after more than 54 years since the promise of reconstruction, reconciliation, and rehabilitation was made following the Civil War.

“The president has tried for Ndigbo. He is still trying for Ndigbo. He is the only man that remembered Ndigbo after 54 years that a promise of reconstruction, reconciliation and rehabilitation was made to Ndigbo,” Kalu said.

Kalu referenced the “three Rs” — reconstruction, rehabilitation, and reintegration — initiated by former military leader Yakubu Gowon after the Civil War, and stated that the reconstruction of the South East had just begun with the establishment of the SEDC.

“He came with the spirit of equity and fairness. He is a leader who believes in development. He signed the SEDC bill into law so that the damage caused by the civil war will be rebuilt,” Kalu added.

Kalu also highlighted that President Tinubu’s leadership was focused on bringing development to the region and asked party members to unite with the grassroots to support the politics of development the president is promoting in Igbo land.

On the defections, Kalu remarked, “When these calibre of people left PDP and other parties and joined the APC, what again is left? The parties have collapsed. Everybody is here. We will empower you to empower others.”WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW TODAY| SEE THE IMPORTED RICE THAT HAS KILLED 935k PEOPLE IN NIGERIA JUST NOW. SEE THE FULL NAMES OF VICTIMS HERE.
