The controversy began on December 27 when reports emerged that over ₦180 million had been allegedly stolen from VDM’s NGO account by unknown hackers. On December 29, VDM announced that ₦78 million of the funds had been recovered.
To address the remaining amount, VDM disclosed plans to travel to Ghana with his team to further investigate the matter and identify the perpetrators. He also assured supporters that measures were being taken to strengthen the security of the NGO’s website.
