Gists9ja reports that during an interview on Channels Television on Wednesday, Osifo expressed concern that the economic policies of the current administration have only deepened the hardships faced by ordinary Nigerians, noting that the President’s lofty promises have not yet translated into meaningful change.

Osifo’s comments were made in response to President Tinubu’s New Year address, where he outlined ambitious goals for the year 2025. These included reducing inflation to 15%, stabilizing the naira, spurring economic growth, increasing local food production, boosting the manufacturing of essential medicines, and creating the National Credit Guarantee Company to improve credit access. While the President’s speech aimed to inspire hope for a brighter future, Osifo criticized the gap between the President’s promises and the economic reality that citizens are grappling with.

Disconnect Between Vision and Reality

Osifo acknowledged that every leader, including President Tinubu, must try to paint a positive picture of the future and inspire hope in the country. However, he expressed his belief that the President’s optimism does not align with the actual challenges faced by Nigerians. According to Osifo, “The president of a country is the chief salesman of the country. His primary responsibility is to articulate a vision for the nation, to create hope and paint a brighter future.” While it is natural for any leader to encourage optimism, Osifo argued that this optimism needs to be based on concrete measures that can bring about real change.

The TUC President pointed out that many Nigerians are currently suffering due to the effects of policies introduced by the Tinubu administration. Although the President’s speeches are filled with hopeful promises, they fail to reflect the harsh economic realities faced by citizens on a day-to-day basis. Osifo emphasized that while hope is essential, it must be paired with real, actionable steps that address the country’s economic challenges.WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW TODAY! Beyond Words: A Call for Action

Osifo’s key message was clear: it is time for President Tinubu to move beyond mere rhetoric and ensure that the policies introduced by his government translate into practical solutions for the country’s problems. He called on the President to take more decisive steps to back up his promises, which have so far failed to alleviate the economic struggles faced by Nigerians. “Nigerians know that many of these policies have contributed to the difficulties and challenges we are currently facing,” Osifo stated.

He also drew attention to some of the promises made by President Tinubu, such as bringing inflation down to 15%, increasing crude oil production to 2.06 million barrels per day, and improving Nigeria’s balance of payments. While these are ambitious goals, Osifo questioned what specific plans have been put in place to achieve them. “What concrete steps have been outlined? What detailed measures are being taken to make sure that these promises are not just empty talk?” he asked, underlining the need for tangible actions that will directly benefit the people.

Urging Transparency and Accountability

Osifo stressed that Nigerians are no longer willing to accept vague assurances. They are looking for transparency, accountability, and, most importantly, results. The economic difficulties that many Nigerians are experiencing—such as rising inflation, increasing unemployment, and a fluctuating naira—require urgent attention and practical solutions. The TUC President called on the government to provide clarity on how its economic plans will be implemented, as well as the specific actions that will be taken to fulfill the promises made by the President.

As Nigeria continues to navigate its economic challenges, Osifo’s comments highlight the pressing need for the government to move beyond speeches and begin implementing policies that are not only ambitious but also achievable.WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW TODAY!
