Utweets understands that he died on Saturday at a hospital in Adewole, Ilorin, following a brief illness.
Isau was a prominent figure in Kwara politics and a key member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). His death marks the loss of a significant political and legal figure who was deeply embedded in the state’s political landscape.
A Lifetime of Service and Political Influence
A close ally of former Senate President Dr. Bukola Saraki, Isau served as Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice during Saraki’s administration, playing a pivotal role in the legal and political affairs of the state. Known for his unwavering loyalty to the Saraki political dynasty, Isau was a significant force in the PDP’s operations in Kwara State.
In 2019, he sought the PDP’s gubernatorial ticket but ultimately stepped down in favor of Razak Atunwa, highlighting his commitment to the party’s collective goals. Despite facing health challenges, including diabetes and high blood pressure, Isau remained active in his public life until his passing.
A Sudden Loss
The day before his death, Isau was reportedly in good health, participating in a meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Ilorin Juma’at Mosque Central Working Committee. His passing, therefore, came as a shock to many, particularly given his active engagement the day prior.
He is survived by his wife and four children, one of whom follows in his footsteps as a lawyer. His burial is set for Sunday, with Janazah prayers to be held at his family home in Gaa Aremu, Ilorin.
Tributes and Condolences
The news of Isau’s passing has prompted an outpouring of tributes from across Kwara State. Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq expressed his deep sorrow, describing Isau as a distinguished lawyer and a dedicated public servant. In his condolence message, the governor said:
“Alhaji Saka Isau will be remembered for his remarkable service to Kwara State as SSG and Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice. I pray to Almighty Allah to admit him to Al-Jannah Firdaus and uphold his family.”
Prof. Ali Ahmad, the Speaker of the 8th Kwara State House of Assembly, also mourned Isau’s death, calling him a pillar in both the political and legal communities. He said:
“We have lost a renowned son and reputable arbitrator in the late Alhaji Saka Isau.” He further prayed for Isau’s soul, asking Allah to grant him eternal peace in Aljanatul Firdaus.
