In a statement shared across the Army’s official social media platforms, including Facebook, X, and WhatsApp, the military explained that the troops were responding to a distress call after an IPOB/ESN attack on Osina Community.

While returning from a routine patrol, the troops swiftly arrived at the scene and engaged the assailants with overwhelming force, forcing the insurgents to flee.

However, the encounter resulted in casualties within the security forces. Two personnel lost their lives in action, while one remains missing. In the confrontation, one of the militants was neutralized, and others were forced to retreat into a nearby forest. The soldiers were able to recover another AK-47 rifle with a fully loaded magazine.

In total, the troops seized six AK-47 rifles, one Fabrique Nationale rifle, and five magazines, significantly weakening the terror group’s arsenal. The operation remains ongoing as the military continues to track down the wounded militants, with the aim of locating their hideouts and treatment locations.

The Nigerian Army has urged remaining IPOB/ESN members and other criminal groups hiding in the forests to surrender to the nearest military unit or face inevitable defeat.
