Troops Smash Notorious Kidnapping Syndicate, Arrest Three Suspects In Taraba

A notorious kidnapping syndicate that terrorizes parts of Jalingo, the state capital, and Lau Local Government Area, has been completely destroyed by members of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS). The first two suspects, identified as Ali Idi and Haruna Umar, were apprehended on October 22nd, 2024 during a raid at a nearby hotel in the Mayo Dassa neighborhood of Jalingo, where they were hiding, according to an intelligence report. ...READ THE FULL STORY FROM SOURCE ↔️

A search of their mobile phones turned up incriminating evidence, including a photo of Haruna Umar carrying an AK-47 rifle alongside another person at a location that has not yet been identified.

Further investigation revealed that additional syndicate members were believed to be camping at Kona Mountain in Jalingo LGA.

Acting swiftly on this intelligence, troops conducted a follow up operation at Kona Mountain on 23 October 2024, during which the leader of the gang identified as Dahiru Idi A. K. A (Yellow) was apprehended.

Upon interrogation, he confessed to the recent kidnapping of three individuals, from whom a ransom of 6 million Naira was extorted before their release.

The gang leader further made it clear that one Yakubu Dogo had taken the two AK-47 rifles from another location in advance of a subsequent operation.

Items recovered from the suspects include 3 Rings, 1 Airtel Sim card, 1 itel Phone, Indian hemp and Charms.

Speaking on the successful operations, the Commander 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, lauded the good people of Taraba State for always supporting the Brigade.
