A series of videos allegedly showing the officers of the Department of State Security (DSS) celebrating the resignation of their boss, Yusuf Bichi, as the Director-General of the agency are false. In one of the videos making rounds, the officers were seen dancing, singing, and hugging one another. Another video showed the officers holding a party.
The videos surfaced after President Bola Tinubu approved the appointment of Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi as the new Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS).
Bichi was appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari on September 14, 2018, to replace Matthew Seiyefa, who had served in an acting capacity.
His resignation follows that of Ahmed Abubakar, the Director-General of the Nigeria Intelligence Agency (NIA), who also resigned by submitting his letter to President Bola Tinubu during a meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Saturday, August 24, 2024.
President Bola has since approved the appointment of Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed as the new Director-General of the NIA.
The old video of the officers in a jubilant mood has attracted several reactions from Nigerians on social media.
