Valentine Ozigbo Criticizes Soludo’s Operation Udo Ga Achi as Ill-Timed

Ozigbo accused Soludo of using the security plan as a political move rather than a genuine effort to tackle the persistent security challenges in Anambra.

In a statement released on Saturday, Ozigbo expressed disappointment that the Governor had only now introduced the security plan, dubbed “Operation Udo Ga Achi,” which is expected to begin by the end of January 2025. While acknowledging that it is positive that Soludo is finally taking action, Ozigbo criticized the timing of the operation, suggesting that it should have been launched much earlier, especially with the holiday season approaching.

“While it is good that Soludo has finally decided to act, I believe the operation should have been implemented much sooner, so that our people coming home for Christmas would feel secure,” Ozigbo remarked. He lamented that the measures were long overdue, reflecting poorly on Soludo’s leadership and his failure to address the security situation sooner.

Ozigbo highlighted that insecurity has worsened under Soludo’s administration, with the state reportedly overrun by criminals for the past 33 months. According to Ozigbo, many citizens are either fleeing the state or avoiding it altogether, fearing for their safety. “How can the state be overrun by criminals for 33 months under Soludo’s watch, with security worse than in any former regime?” Ozigbo asked, emphasizing that many residents are now reluctant to return for the Christmas season due to safety concerns.

He pointed to a series of recent violent incidents, including the tragic case of a family killed while returning for the holidays in Umunnachi, the murder of a lecturer at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (Unizik) in Awka, and the kidnapping of a retired Archbishop, who is still being held captive. These incidents, Ozigbo argued, are a stark reflection of the deteriorating security situation under Soludo’s watch.

Ozigbo also expressed skepticism about the Governor’s motives for launching the security operation, suggesting that it is tied to Soludo’s re-election campaign rather than a genuine desire to improve the state’s security. “It is apparent that his latest effort is politically motivated, especially given his tendency to brand everything with words from his surname,” Ozigbo remarked, referring to Soludo’s branding of the security initiative as “Operation Udo Ga Achi.”

The former PDP candidate further accused Governor Soludo of politicizing not only security but also infrastructural development in Anambra. “The governor cannot claim not to know these issues, yet he has decided to wait until after Christmas to act,” Ozigbo said, criticizing the Governor for prioritizing politics over the well-being of the people.

Ozigbo also raised concerns about the Governor’s track record with infrastructure projects, accusing Soludo of awarding road contracts without genuine plans for their completion, which he described as an attempt to score political points. “Soludo should act more and talk less,” he stated, expressing his frustration over the Governor’s failure to deliver tangible results.

In conclusion, Ozigbo warned that the delay in addressing insecurity may lead to further harm, with some individuals who decide to return home for the holidays potentially falling victim to criminal activity.
