This stance follows the Presidency’s call for the governor to retract his statement, which it described as “inflammatory.” The Presidency had specifically taken issue with the governor’s remark, “We’ll show Tinubu our true color,” arguing that it did not reflect the North’s position or foster the constructive dialogue needed between states and the Federal Government.
In response, the acting National Chairman of the PDP, Umar Damagum, and the party’s newly confirmed National Secretary, Sunday Ude-Okoye, reaffirmed their backing of Governor Mohammed’s position, asserting that the PDP would not be cowed by any threats.
Damagum, in a statement to Punch, emphasized that the Tax Reform Bills were harmful to the people and that the APC-led Federal Government’s continued borrowing without clear, positive outcomes was unsustainable. He said, “The party is fully behind Governor Bala Mohammed’s comments. These tax reforms are anti-people, and the government cannot keep borrowing without any tangible results. This is the position of our party.”
