The tragic incident occurred when gunmen attacked a farmer, popularly known as Mr. Black, as he transported his farm produce to the market. According to a local resident, the assailants, believed to be kidnappers, attempted to stop him by force. When he refused to comply, they opened fire, killing him instantly.
The second victim, Sunday Aiyedero, was fatally shot while working on a nearby farm. Describing the situation as dire, a resident called for immediate government intervention, lamenting, “We can no longer sleep with our eyes closed.”
Community Outcry and Protest
In response to the killings, enraged youths from Odo-Ape organized a protest, blocking the highway that passes through their community. They accused state authorities of ignoring their repeated pleas for action against the growing wave of insecurity.
The protesters highlighted the community’s plight, revealing that in the past three months, at least seven people had been abducted in a string of kidnappings. They demanded immediate intervention from the federal government to address the deteriorating security situation.
