The lawmaker representing Egor/Ikpoba-Okha Federal Constituency in Edo State, Murphy Osaro Omoruyi, said he chose the African Democratic Party, ADC, over the All Progress Congress, APC, because of the poor governance of the latter.
Omoruyi, who was elected on the platform of the Labour Party, has detected to the APC.
DAILY POST reports that Omoruyi explained the reason behind his defection on Tuesday at a press conference in Benin City, where he formally announced his defection to ADC.
Omoruyi, who was the only Labour Party lawmaker standing in the state, in December 2025 resigned from the party.
Addressing journalists on Tuesday, Omoruyi said he chose ADC over APC because the current APC-led Federal Government have made life very difficult for Nigerians.
“You and I know the situation of the country right now, our constituents are crying out there. They are not happy because of insecurity. They are not happy because there is hunger in the land.
“They are not happy because our roads are not motorable. You can hardly travel from one point to the other. They are not happy for so many reasons. The current government has made life very difficult for our people,” he said.
The lawmaker accused the President Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government of not implementing the 2025 budget, alleging that it was the 2024 budget that was implemented.
“Can you believe that last year, 2025, no budget was executed in this country, Nigeria. The budget of 2025 was not touched at all.
“So a government that fails to even implement a whole year budget, tell me, how do you expect the people to feel the impact of that authority?”
He opined that as a result of poor governance, like-minded Nigerians appealed to him to join the coalition to rescue Nigeria from the hands of the APC government.
Omoruyi added that he has pitched tent with his people to remove the APC-led Federal Government in the 2027 general election.
According to him, he left the Labour Party because of crisis rocking the party both at the state and national level.
He pledged his commitment to work with the ADC leaders, coalition partners and stakeholders to advance the cause of good governance and effective representation in the country.
“Together, we will strengthen our democratic institutions and ensure that the voices of ordinary Nigerians are heard and respected.
“To my constituents, I reaffirm my unwavering loyalty to you. Your trust remains my guiding principle, and I assure you that this step is taken to better serve your interests and secure a brighter future for our constituency,” he added.
