UTWEETS reports that Omokri, who had been a loyal ally of Atiku for years, recently shifted his allegiance to the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a key political opponent of Atiku.
In an interview with Tribune, Omokri, who is also a pastor and influential social media personality, shed light on the circumstances that led to his departure from Atiku’s camp following the 2023 general election.
“I played a significant role in assembling Atiku Abubakar’s Media Team,” Omokri explained. “In doing so, I introduced a few individuals who served the team well. However, some turned out to be disloyal to me personally, going as far as backstabbing me. Loyalty is a core principle for me, and I believe loyalty should be reciprocal.”
Omokri revealed that he gave Atiku ample time to address the situation but was disappointed by the lack of action. “I extended blind loyalty to Atiku and expected the same in return. When he failed to act on the disloyalty shown to me, I decided to address the matter directly. According to Omokri, his decision to part ways with Atiku was not sudden. He disclosed that he had resolved to leave the former Vice President’s camp even before the 2023 elections.
“I confided in someone who was trusted by both Atiku and me,” Omokri said. “I informed them that regardless of the election’s outcome, I would no longer align myself with Atiku. My decision was rooted in the inability of Atiku to distinguish between loyalty and sycophancy. This is a persistent issue for him, and it will likely continue to affect his relationships and political career.”
Despite his criticisms, Omokri acknowledged Atiku’s capabilities, noting, “Atiku Abubakar possesses the qualities necessary to lead Nigeria. In many ways, he stands on par with Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. However, his judgment regarding loyalty and sycophancy remains a significant drawback.”
Omokri’s shift in allegiance underscores a broader narrative of internal conflicts and evolving loyalties within Nigeria’s political landscape.
