In a statement dated January 16, 2025 and jointly signed by the Bishop of Warri Diocese, Most Rev. Anthony Ovayero Ewherido, and the Chancellor/Notary, Very Rev. Fr. Clement Abobo, the Church disclosed that Oghenerukevwe had sought to be released from all canonical duties within the Roman Catholic Church.

While the Church was processing his request, the Reverend Father proceeded to wed Ms. Dora.

But providing more details into the reason Fr. Oghenerukevwe left his priestly calling to tie the knot, a woman who claimed to be the biological sister of the suspended Catholic priest, Mary Okanatotor, said “it was the best decision” for his brother.

Mary added that her family was not physically present to support him when the priest was undergoing difficult challenges.

Fr Oghenerukevwe, who hails from one of the communities in Ewu Kingdom of Delta State, was ordained as a Catholic priest on June 21, 2008, into the Catholic Diocese of Warri.
