Early on Monday morning, a baby who was sold after being taken by a housemaid in Lagos State’s Ikorodu neighborhood was found within a market after her buyer allegedly abandoned her there.

Benjamin Hundeyin, the state police command’s public relations officer, revealed this information on his X handle on Monday. He also said that the infant was discovered within the Alade Market abandoned by police officers and was quickly saved.

According to media reports, the housemaid absconded with the child from the home of her parents in Ikorodu and when she was later arrested, she was said to have confessed that she sold the baby for N800,000.

However, while giving an update on the incident, Hundeyin disclosed that due to intense manhunt and pressure from the police, the buyer of the baby in the early hours of Monday abandoned her at the Alade Market, and she was promptly rescued by the police officers.

He added that the baby had been handed over to her parents after proper identification while efforts are being intensified to apprehend the buyer.

Hundeyin wrote: “Due to intense manhunt and pressure from the police, the buyer in the early hours of today (Monday) abandoned the baby in Alade Market. Baby was promptly rescued by the police.

“The baby has since been handed over to her parents after they positively identified her.

“Efforts are still on to apprehend the buyer who is currently on the run.”
