The decrease in electricity supply has resulted in significant losses to businesses and households.
Band A customers typically receive 20-24 hours of electricity supply daily and are charged based on their consumption.
However, residents of Omole Phase One have not been receiving the expected level of service. They have taken their concerns to the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), seeking intervention.
Muyiwa Majekodunmi, a resident of Omole Phase One stated, “As a community, there was a bilateral agreement but suddenly the situation changed, government came up with regulations and we were transferred to what we now known are Band A.
We have realized that over the past few months, the power supply to Omole Phase One has really gone bad. But over the last two three months, we have suffered a situation whereby a minimum of three to five times daily, powers will be taken off for a long period of time.
The economic impact has been very terrible. We know the cost of fueling generators, either using diesel or petrol. For some people, they work from home and so, for you to be able to operate efficiently, but you don’t have power to do anything.”
A female resident expressed her dissatisfaction, saying, “There is no light and nobody is doing anything. Can you imagine, we are residents of Omole Estate Phase One. we want an answer if not we are not leaving here.”
More residents claim the situation has worsened since the beginning of the year, despite paying high fees as Band A customers.
